A. Lange & Söhne, who embolden the dreams of the watch enthusiasts with designs that carry the brand’s DNA to the finest detail as well as the great movements that it has given life, once again impressed the watch aficionados with its Lange 1 model, which became a symbol of the brand.

The Lange 1 was updated this past year, and continued to maintain its overall image as expected from the German brand. At the heart of the revamped model was a brand new movement that the German brand has recently developed, which takes full marks from the authorities. Parallel to the update to the Lange 1 model, A. Lange & Söhne face lifted the new Moon Phase version, but this time with a hidden day / night indicator as a bonus.

A. Lange & Söhne’s moon phase indicator, which shares the same platform as the previous version, needs to be adjusted once in 122.6 years.

The case design seems to be the same as the previous version. The case, measuring 38.5mm in diameter, features a narrowed bezel and a sapphire crystal, which now sits a tad higher than the bezel.

The layout of the dial  is accepted as the norm for this model but is also designed so it does not contain many major changes. A. Lange & Söhne changed the font used in the texts and numbers, and revised the surface of the sub dials with engine-turned pattern.

If we leave visual changes aside, the most important feature of the model is undoubtedly the movement Caliber Ref. L121.3. The new movement features a 3-day power reserve, a fast-changing date function, and a second hand that automatically comes to zero when the power reserve comes to an end.

Although it is stated that the mechanism, which required 70 extra parts due to the addition of the module for the moon phase indicator, has a slightly thicker structure than the standard version. However, we do not think that the difference of 0.6 mm will make a difference in daily use.

A. Lange & Söhne’s moon phase indicator, which shares the same platform as the previous version, needs to be adjusted once in 122.6 years. The brand, which does not want to limit the update part to just technical features, has made an interesting revision to the moon phase indicator. The system, which is designed differently from the classic moon-phase indicators with single-piece discs, features a moon phase display that is a moon disc shaped like a figure of “8”, and sits against a blue background.

The lunar phase and night / day indicator, designed in a nested manner, completes their rotations within their allocated time. The moon phase indicator completes a full turn in 29.5 days, while the day and night indicator turns once in 24 hours. The moon phase indicator, which appears in light blue tones during daylight hours, turns into a darker blue tone as time passes.
