Alpina, one of the well-established names of Switzerland, celebrates its 140th anniversary with two new limited edition models. Standing out with their Art Deco style designs, the models come to the fore with their choices that bring a new breath to the Heritage concept.
Alpina celebrates its 140th anniversary this year. The brand dates back to 1883 when Gottlieb Hauser founded the Schweizerische Uhrmacher Corporation, which would later become Alpina Union Horlogère S.A. To celebrate this meaningful history, Alpina has created the restored Alpina AL-A-Line, inspired by the rectangular models of the 1930s/1940s. It introduces two modern-classic limited edition models that come to life with the 490 movements.
The new models come with rectangular cases inspired by the Art Deco designs of the 930s/1940s. The reason for my statement at the beginning of my article that "brings a new breath to the heritage style" is that the cases of the new models are made of silver, as opposed to the usual materials such as steel or gold. Choosing a perfectly appropriate material for a heritage-style collection, the well-established brand does not ignore the requirements of modern times with sapphire crystals on both sides of the case.
The dial, which is one of the elements that reinforce the retro character of the model, comes with black or silver background options. The silver dial, in which numeral indexes accompany Dauphine-style hands, takes on a more classic character with its sector-style design. The black model, on the other hand, offers a more dignified and modest appearance with its plain background and matte surface form. The dials, which have a small seconds counter at 6 o'clock, do not have any other complications, including a date window.
Another crucial feature of the new collection is in the movement section. Stylish models draw their strength from calibers produced in the 1930s, bearing the signature of Straub & Co, which underwent extensive restoration. Antique movements oscillating at a frequency of 2.5Hz (18.000vph) do not lag behind modern counterparts with a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound.
Genuine peacock leather straps, prepared in a light brown tone, accompany the stylish models. Alpina signed clasps fasten the elegant models to the wrist. The models, which are limited to only 14 pieces for each reference, are offered for sale with a price tag of EUR 4,995.
