Arnold & Son has added a new version to its awe-inspiring Luna Magna series, which brings a completely different interpretation to the moon phase feature. The limited-edition model is presented with a case made of platinum, one of the most precious materials of luxury watchmaking.
Earlier this year, Arnold & Son wowed watch enthusiasts at the Watches & Wonders online watch fair with the launch of the first Luna Magna, a watch that showcases the largest 3D moon phase ever built into a wristwatch. The famous brand introduced the platinum case version of Luna Magna, which took its place among the cult models as soon as it came out, within the Watch Time New York event, which ended recently.
The Luna Magna Platinum comes in a 44mm diameter and 15.9mm high case, just like the 18K rose gold version. Sapphire crystals are used on both sides of the case, which is made of Grade 950 platinum for the new version. A&S signed winding crown completes the large yet elegant case with glossy surfaces.
The three-dimensional 12 mm diameter spherical moon, which is the key detail of the concept, consists of two hemispheres made of marble for the bright side of the moon and aventurine material for the dark side. Just above the gigantic moon phase indicator is the mother-of-pearl time-only sub-dial with blue-painted hands and Roman numeral markers. The rest of the dial continues to fascinate with its image reminiscent of shining stars in the night sky.
Hand-wound Caliber A&S1021, designed and produced in-house, operates at a frequency of 3Hz. The movement, which fascinates with its decorations as much as its engineering, offers a solid 90-hour power reserve when fully wound, despite the off-center time display sub-dial and the marble/stone mixed three-dimensional Moon Phase display.
The model, which is limited to only 28 pieces, is complemented by a dark blue alligator strap fastened to the wrist with a clasp made of Grade 950 platinum. The list price for the model is 55,900 CHF.
