Revealing its passion for the "moon" theme in many of its models, Arnold & Son emphasizes the strong connection between horology and astrology with its new limited edition model Luna Magna.

Arnold & Son, one of the boutique names of luxury watchmaking, is among the brands that won the appreciation of watch lovers with its new perspective on traditional complications as well as its classic models. The brand that we worked with for our first limited edition watch, the Globetrotter, is the guest of our review corner with its limited-edition model Luna Magna.

Although Arnold & Son is a brand that likes to embroider classic complications, it's hard to say that it does that in classic sizes. The models of the brand, which feature superior craftsmanship and different materials with a poetic interpretation, are designed considerably larger than the classical sizes as a natural result of these elements.

The same goes for Arnold & Son Luna Magna. The new model comes with a case designed with a diameter of 44mm and a thickness of 15.90mm. The case, which is a candidate to be the target of curious glances, is made of 18K rose gold. There is a double AR-coated and domed sapphire crystal in the front of the 30 meters water-resistant case. The sapphire crystal display case back at the rear of the reveals the magnificent movement decorated according to Arnold & Son standards.

When it comes to Arnold & Son models, one of the things that draw my attention is that the same care and effort are used in all the components that bring the watch together. Therefore, it's hard to say "the dial is my favorite part" or "the movement in the most eye-catching part" for an A&S timepiece.

It is no different for Luna Magna. When we look at the dial, a white time display sub-dial placed on a dark Aventurine background and, of course, one of the most beautiful Moon Phase displays we have ever seen greet us. The dial offers excellent legibility with the help of its light/dark contrast while bringing the clarity of a starry night to the wrists. Roman numeral markers and elegant hands indicate the time on a white lacquered background.

The Moon Phase indicator, on the other hand, is a work of art in itself... The miniature Moon figure, showing the phases of the Moon, resembles a small marble with its 12mm diameter. While the part representing the dark surface of the Moon is produced from Aventurine, the part showing the other side is produced from marble.

As I mentioned before, Arnold & Son Luna Magna continues to impress not only with one but with every detail. When we turn the back of the watch, the scene that appears before us pushes the limits of micro-mechanics and carries the traditional craftsmanship that has been going on for centuries to the present day.

Hand-wound Caliber A&S1021, designed and produced in-house, operates at a frequency of 3Hz. The movement, which fascinates with its decorations as much as its engineering, offers a solid 90-hour power reserve when fully wound, despite the off-center time display sub-dial and the marble/stone mixed three-dimensional Moon Phase display.

The model, which is limited to only 28 pieces, comes on an alligator strap and A&S signed 18K pink gold standard buckle. The stylish model is available for a list price of CHF 43,900 (excluding taxes).

As the Horobox team, it is a fact that we have a special love for the Arnold & Son brand. As both a part of that team and a watch enthusiast, I have great love and respect for the brand. These days, where the watch hobby has become synonymous with certain brands and models, I think that there are very few brands that can successfully transfer tradition into modern times. Arnold & Son also occupies a special place among this unique minority, who are few yet extremely valuable for what they offer.
