Audemars Piguet is under the spotlight with the Tourbillon Openworked model, the flagship of the Code 11.59 Collection, which was introduced to watch lovers at the 2019 SIHH fair.
SIHH 2019 fair hosted many important models in terms of traditional luxury watchmaking. One of the most memorable among these is Audemars Piguet's new product group, Code 11.59 Collection.
The collection, which is the first brand new model family introduced by the famous brand after a long time, has received very different feedback with its interesting design details. Code 11.59, which was criticized by the brand's loyal fan base, also attracted the admiration of watch enthusiasts who found the brand's past designs to be bold and flashy.
The word CODE is derived from the initials for the brand, Challenge, Own, Dare, Evolve. 11.59, in the meantime, represents the last minute left to the start of a new day.
The model we selected for review, Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 Tourbillon Openworked, is the flagship of the collection. Code 11.59 Tourbillon Openworked, which also forms the basis for the Unique Piece model produced for the Only Watch event held in the same year, underlines the importance AP attaches to its new product group.
The model comes in an 18K pink gold case with a diameter of 41mm. The case is home to the perforated lug design, which is the signature detail of the Code 11.59 family, as well as the angular lines passing through the sides. You can only appreciate these details when you wear the watch on your wrist as they are very difficult to explain through the photographs. So, if you have a bias about the model family, I would definitely recommend you try a Code 11.59 on your wrist. The case features sapphires crystals on both sides and a large winding crown bearing the AP logo. The case, which mainly includes matte surfaces, reveals all its lines to the finest detail. The model can withstand water pressure up to 30 meters.
As expected from skeleton models, Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 Tourbillon Openworked also does not have a standard dial. The time is indicated by the black scale placed on the outer part of the dial and the hour/minute hands positioned in the center. Blackened movement components, especially the tourbillon and pump bridge, add an industrial feel to the model.
Inside the model is the in-house produced Caliber 2948. 19-jewels hand-wound movement operates at a frequency of 3Hz (21.600vph) and offers an effective power reserve of 80 hours when fully wound.
Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 Tourbillon Openworked is available on a black alligator strap and an AP signed 18K pink gold standard buckle. The list price for the model is CHF 175,000.
