Audemars Piguet expands its iconic Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin model family with a new reference made from titanium and palladium alloy.
The luxury sports watch segment with an integrated bracelet, which emerged in the 1970s, is experiencing its golden age, especially in the last decade. While it is almost impossible to reach the cult models of the brands that determine the rules of the segment through dealers, many manufacturers from different price groups are looking for a place in this segment.
Considered the starting point of this successful segment, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra-Thin collection continues on its way with the 16202 reference, after a comprehensive update in the past years. The model family, which does not give up its stance connected to its roots, today says hello to a new version that stands out with alternative materials.
The case, designed with a diameter of 39mm and a thickness of only 8.1mm, is made of Grado 5 titanium. The alloy is known for its ultra-lightweight feature as well as its resistance to wear. The angular bezel on the front of the now classic case is made of BMG Bulk Metallic Glass. 8 white gold screws fasten the bezel to the case made of modern palladium-based alloy. The stylish case, which has sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating on the front and back, is water resistant up to 50 meters.
Another distinctive feature of the model meets us on the dial. Offering a striking appearance with its gradient burgundy background color, the dial highlights the sporty theme of the model. On the eye-catching dial, the time is tracked by pink gold hands and applique indexes applied with Super-LumiNOVA phosphor material.
The stylish model draws its power from the Caliber 7121 movement, which we are familiar with from the current 16202 model family. The 268-piece/33-jewel extra-thin automatic movement is wound with a central rotor. The caliber operates at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph) and offers up to 52 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
The bi-color theme of the model continues on the bracelet as well as on the case. BMG Bulk Metallic Glass material, which we remember from the bezel, is used on the middle links of the bracelet, which is made of Grade 5 titanium. A folding clasp with the AP logo completes the elegant bracelet.
There is no price information yet for the new model added to the standard (not limited) collection.
