Audemars Piguet announced a new model, designed and produced in collaboration with cult comic book publisher Marvel. The model, featuring the super action hero Black Panther theme, which is well-known by the world of comic books, is limited to 250 units.
The famous brand recently announced that it would collaborate with Marvel, but they did not give any information about the model. The model, which is eagerly awaited by comic book enthusiasts as well as watch enthusiasts, was unveiled today with the event broadcasted live on the official website of AP. Opting the Royal Oak Concept platform for this special model, AP did not neglect to make cosmetic and functional changes.
The new model houses a case designed on the AP Royal Oak Concept platform. Standing out with its faceted design, the case comes with a diameter of 42mm, which was not included in the collection before. The case is made of titanium with a black ceramic bezel and an anti-reflective coated sapphire crystal on the front side. Hosting a black ceramic winding crown and a sapphire crystal display case back, the case is water-resistant to 50 meters.
The model is home to a dial with a three-dimensional figure of the Marvel character Black Panther. The figure, produced in white gold and painted by hand, is accompanied by white gold hour markers and hands with black PVD coating. On the dial with the Tourbillon cage at 6 o'clock, the time is displayed by the inner hour scale finished in purple.
The new model is powered by the Caliber 2965, which was developed and produced in-house. The hand-wound movement with 17 jewels / 242 pieces beats at a frequency of 3Hz (21.600vph) and offers 72 hours / 3 days power reserve when fully wound. The movement features an extraordinary finishing with different geometric titanium patterns on the bridges, completed with grey and black PVD coating. In addition to the hour and minute functions, the movement also hosts a Flying Tourbillon balance.
The model comes on a purple rubber strap fastened with a titanium folding clasp. The model's special presentation box also includes a black rubber strap. The list price for the model, which is limited to 250 units, is CHF 150,000.
