Blancpain introduced the titanium version of the Air Command Flyback Chronograph, which was developed for the United States Air Force in 2019.
For the limited edition model introduced two years ago, “Purists' Gold” stainless steel was preferred. Blancpain, which has added this stylish model to its standard edition references as of this year, has chosen a titanium alloy compatible with the Tool Watch character for the new model. But we are not talking about ordinary titanium here...
The new model comes with a 42.50mm diameter and 13.7mm height designed case. The stylish case, which has the same dimensions as the limited edition version, is now made of Grade 23 titanium alloy. Unlike Grade 2 and 5 alloys, which have become the industry standard, Grade 23, which contains lower oxygen, nitrogen, and iron concentrations, is used in medical implants that will be placed inside the body due to its high damage tolerance. On the front of the case, there is a sapphire crystal and a bidirectional rotating bezel with a blue ceramic insert. The case, on the back of which is covered with a sapphire crystal display, is waterproof up to 30 meters, which is now a very weak value by today's standards.
Unlike the classic and 2019 Re-Issue models, the Blancpain Air Command Flyback Chronograph Titanium hosts a blue dial, not a black one. The Bi-Compax chronograph layout dial promises to offer sufficient legibility in almost any environment, with the help of Super-LumiNOVA filled hour markers and hands.
The stylish model beats by the manufacture Caliber F388B. Standing out with its 5Hz (36,000vsph) high-beat frequency, the automatic Flyback chronograph movement offers a power reserve time of up to 50 hours when fully wound. The caliber, which is equipped with a free-sprung silicon balance and balance spring, can be viewed through the sapphire crystal partitioned back cover.
Blancpain Air Command completes its avant-garde yet military look with a blue calf leather strap with white contrast stitching and a titanium buckle. The list price for the model is CHF 17,300. The new model family also includes an 18K rose gold version. The model (Ref. AC02-36B40-63), which is equipped with a solid rose gold rotor, is available at CHF 27,300.
