This year, IWC Schaffhausen, the official licensee of the US Navy Flight Show Fleet Blue Angels, will glide through the skies with the new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Blue Angels” equipped with a black ceramic case and a sky-blue dial.
The Navy’s Chief of Marine Operations, Chester W. Nimitz, founded the US Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron “Blue Angels” in 1946. The team consists of six members who can fly with F/A-18 Hornet jets and continue their service in the navy. In addition to impressive one-man performances, the aerobatic repertoire on display includes challenging delta maneuvers with a combination of six aircraft. Every year, Blue Angels shows its skills in front of about 11 million people.
IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Blue Angels” was developed in collaboration with the flight demonstration fleet team. The sports chronograph model comes in a 44.5mm polished black zirconium oxide ceramic case. The case is equipped with a double anti-glare treated sapphire crystal on the front side and is water-resistant to 60 meters. The movement is protected against magnetic fields by a soft iron cage. The case back features the Blue Angels logo.
The model, equipped with a sky-blue dial, is powered by the manufacture Caliber 89361. Self-winding Flyback chronograph movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph) and offers a power reserve of up to 68 hours when fully wound.
The IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Blue Angels” (Ref. IW389008), which is completed with a blue calfskin strap, will be available by this month.
