Breguet is crowning the 220th anniversary of the Tourbillon complication, introduced to the world of horology by the famous watchmaker Abraham Breguet, with a limited edition model.
In 1801, the French-Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet patented his invention, the Tourbillon, which was named after the French word for "hurricane" and was defined by him as "a watch that compensates for all possible defects in the balance wheel and mainspring". Breguet celebrated this unique moment, which has become a milestone for traditional luxury watchmaking, with a new limited edition reference.
The new model comes with a 41mm diameter case made of 18K rose gold. With its characteristic edge pattern and lug design, the case, which screams that it is a Breguet at first sight, is waterproof up to 30 meters. The case, which does not compromise on its elegance despite its large size, is accompanied by a Breguet signed crown.
Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Anniversaire comes with an impressive dial befitting its theme. The elegant dial features Clous de Paris and Grain d'Orge motifs applied with the engine-turning method on an 18K gold base. The blue hands, which entered the watch terminology as “Breguet style”, are accompanied by elegant Roman numerals markers. Located just above the Tourbillon escapement at 5 o'clock, the plate bearing the text "Brevet No 157", referring to the patent number given to Abraham-Louis, highlights the theme of the model.
The movement, Caliber 581, which was designed and produced in-house, functions in the new model. The hand-wound movement is equipped with high-tech features such as a barrel on ball-bearing rollers, reverse-side lever escapement with silicon horns, and silicon balance spring. The movement, which is wound by a wave-patterned platinum rotor, offers a power reserve time of up to 80 hours.
The model, which is limited to only 35 pieces, comes with a brown alligator strap and an 18K pink gold folding clasp.
