Bulgari, which was highly acclaimed with its investments in luxury watchmaking and spectacular movements, broke another record in ultra-thin watches with its latest model: Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatique.
Octo Finissimo Automatique was the third record for the brand regarding ultra-thin watches. Introduced in 2014, Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon brought the first record with its total thickness of just 1.95mm, and the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater, which was introduced to the watch enthusiasts last year, was the second record of the brand with its 3.12mm thick movement.
The new model is included in the Octo Collection, which is recognized as the symbol of the change in the brand that we have experienced over the past few years. The faceted lines reveal Bulgari’s superb workmanship, this time with a case made of titanium with a sand-blasted surface. It is designed with a 40mm diameter as it is in the previous models, but it is possible to say that it looks pretty large on the wrist thanks to the slender structure of the watch (5.15mm) and light color scheme. The case sports scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides and a winding crown with ceramic inlay.
The Octo Finissimo Automatique has a very simple and monochrome appearance. One of the most important factors in the formation of this situation is, of course, the dial design of the model. Baton style indices and Arabic number hour markers are used in the dial which is in harmony with the sand-blast finish titanium case. The small seconds hand is directly positioned between 7 and 8 o’clock position to keep the thin structure of the movement un-harmed. Designed with black PVD finishes, the hands and indices provide enough contrast for optimum legibility without compromising the overall design integrity.
The new model is powered with the in-house Caliber Ref. BLV138 designed and manufactured at the brands atelier in Le Sentier. The movement is based on the manual winding Caliber Ref. BLV128 by adding a micro-rotor for self-winding. The movement is the new record holder for being the thinnest self-winding movement ever with a total thickness of 2.23mm only! The movement beats at 21600vph and offers a power reserve of 60h when fully wound. The micro-rotor is made of heavy solid Grade 950 Platinum in order to avoid inefficient winding problem which may occur due to the smaller size of the oscillating rotor.
The Octo Finissimo Automatique is available with ultra-flat crocodile leather strap or micro-glazed titanium bracelet. The bracelet offers a sportier and more integrated look while the leather strap provides better contrast revealing the beautiful design of the case.
Bulgari combines the Italian design with the know-how obtained from the legendary brands Gerald Genta SA and Daniel Roth SA acquired in2000 continues to create miraculous timepieces.
