The Drive de Cartier collection, which debuted at SIHH 2016 for the first time, announced its Extra Flat model last year. Cartier should have been very pleased with this product line as the 18K yellow gold and stainless steel Extra Flat models have taken its place among the innovations of SIHH 2018.
The Drive de Cartier Extra-Flat model, which is also among my favorites in the current Cartier collection, has been out of the radar of many people, including myself, because it is only offered in a solid gold case. The stainless steel model introduced at the 2018 SIHH fair will surely be on the wish list of many people in the new year.
The new model is offered in a 38mm x 39mm case in two options as 18K yellow gold and stainless steel. The case is only 6.6mm thick and it is water resistant to 30 meters.
Both models sport silver color dials with Roman numerals as in the rest of the Drive de Cartier Collection. The dials do not have lumed accents due to the limited space. Generally, I found the luminous accents quite useful but for those beautiful dials, I will not complain.
The new model is powered by the Cartier Caliber 430 MC. The hand-wound movement, which is only 2.1mm thick, beats at 3.5Hz and offers 36 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
The MSRP for the models are; 5600USD for the stainless steel version and 15400 USD for the 18K yellow gold version (US list). The new models will be available by September 2018.
