Celebrates 185th Anniversary with Two Special Creations

Baume & Mercier celebrates its 185th anniversary at the Watches & Wonders 2015 by unveiling two new special timepieces: 18K rose gold Clifton 1830 pocket watch with five-minute repeater function and the Promesse Jade for ladies.

The Clifton 1830 pocket watch is more like a tribute to the historic timepieces the brand created during the 19th century, making it a brillant combination of modern watchmaking and Baume & Mercier’s heritage.

Ideally sized for a pocket watch at 50mm in diameter, the 18K rose gold case features smooth and elegant lines.

Slightly domed dial has Arabic numerals and 18K rose gold rivet form markers with the highly stylized and diamond cut hands made of 18k red gold as well.

Thanks to the see through case back, one can enjoy the skeleton formed movement finished beautifully. Activated by a trigger type button at 4 o’clock, the chime sounds low notes to indicate the current hour, then a pair of low and high tones for each elapsed period of five minutes.

There’s a safety feature in the watch which prevents the chime from sounding if the trigger is not fully cocked, therefore preventing damage to the movement.Pretty retro but useful as well.

The hand-wound movement beats at an era matching 18,000 vph. The movement is designed and developed exclusively for Baume & Mercier by Dubois Dépraz having almost every standard of traditional watch making; custom designed bridges and mainplate, circular engraving on the plate, bridges with classic “Côtes de Genève” decoration and flame blued screws.

To boost up the owner’s joy, the Clifton 1830 pocket watch is accompanied by an hi-tech enhancement – a JMC Lutherie resonance tray. This is a composite soundboard made of resonating spruce wood and Nomex/Kevlar honeycomb. Paired with the Clifton 1830, this unique stand becomes a musical instrument.

Limited to 30pcs production number, the 18K rose gold Clifton 1830 pocket watch comes with a black calfskin leather strap attached with an 18K rose gold crown and bow. It is offered in an exclusively designed case enclosing a small leather pouch that protects it while being carried inside the pocket.

Baume & Mercier also celebrates its 185th anniversary with the jade and diamond Promesse watch. Ancient legend in Asia says anyone who wears this precious green-tinted gemstone with its beneficent aura is protected for life.

Launched exclusively at the Watches & Wonders Exhibition in Hong Kong, Baume & Mercier crafted the Promesse Jade watch as an everlasting sign of love. Delicately sized at 34mm, an oval jade bezel adorned with 61 diamonds surrounds a silver-colored dial featuring guilloché decor, Roman numerals and hour markers set with eight diamonds. Powered by a fine Swiss quartz movement, the engraved case back reads “Limited Edition – One out of 8”, establishing the rarity of this jeweled delight. The Promesse Jade is a sophisticated, eternally feminine timepiece to be treasured and passed down from mother and daughter to bring health, prosperity and love.
