Corum, one of the first watch brands to come to mind when it gets to maritime and especially sailing, was the guest of our Hands On corner with the AC-One 45 model in the Admiral’s Cup collection.
As I mentioned in my previous articles, I am a big fan of sailing sport. Though I’ve been involved in this sport for only five years, I am deeply connected to it. So all the timepieces made in this concept makes me excited. Corum Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph model made me feel the same.

The Admiral’s Cup story for Corum begins in 1960. The Admiral’s Cup model, which was designed in those years, has a fairly simple appearance with its square shaped case. Today, the Corum Admiral’s Cup offers all the features you’d expect from a sports watch.
Corum Admiral’s Cup comes to the forefront with design details that have become a symbol of the product line. At the top of them is the 12-sided case design. The satin and polished surfaces were used together in the 45mm case. With a thickness of 14.30mm, the case has been within the ideal limits for a sports chronograph watch. The model, which is obviously not a diver’s watch, offers 300M water resistance rating and sapphire crystals on both sides.
One of the most special parts of the watch is undoubtedly its dial. The material used in the dial is the “teak tree” used on many motor yachts and sailboats. The superb workmanship bounces immediately on the dial, which is designed in the view of the boat deck. The Bi-Compax chronograph feature is another detail that fascinates me. With some exceptions, I like the Bi-Compax lay-out more than the Tri-Compax style.
The symbols corresponding to each index on the chart are prepared as maritime signal flags. The flags, each with a different meaning, draw attention as a design detail identified with the Corum Admiral’s Cup product line.
Corum Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Chronograph is powered by the Caliber Ref. CO 116. 39 jewels movement beats at 28800vph and offers 42 hours power reserve when fully wound. The self-winding movement can be seen through the sapphire display caseback.
The model is offered on a special strap made of Kevlar and leather that Corum gives the name "Mad Max". The strap, which is highly resistant to sea water, is accompanied by a folding clasp.
