F.P. Journe re-introduced the legendary Journe Chronomètre à Résonance series with its renewed face, 20 years after the introduction of the first model.

François Paul Journe, of one of the 21st-century watchmaking geniuses, celebrates the 20th birthday of his most iconic model Chronomètre à Résonance with an updated version. The new model is more refined and elegant than before.

Resonance is the name given to the tendency of a system (usually a linear system) to oscillate at certain frequencies at greater amplitudes than in others. Let's take a look at the example in the video to understand how this definition adapts to the watch movements.

As you can see, metronomes that are set to oscillate in the same frequency range start working simultaneously after a while, although they are started at different times. So instead of seeing themselves as independent components, they adjust and synchronize according to the system they are in.

This is exactly what F. P. Journe is trying to do in the Chronomètre à Résonance model. Running two balances connected to the same main body in a system, where they are synchronized to provide excellent timekeeping accuracy.

Although the new Chronomètre à Résonance model looks quite similar to its predecessor at first glance, there are surprising and even fascinating innovations as you go into details. The model has two case diameter options as 40mm and 42mm, which are available in 18K pink gold or platinum. Both cases are 11mm thick. The user can enjoy the beautiful dial and the stunning movement through the sapphire crystals on both sides of the case.

Two different time zones can be followed from the front side of the watch. The dial on the left has a 24-hour scale while the one on the right has a 12-hour scale. There are small second indicators just below the two dials, while the "remontoir d’egalité" display of the movement is located in the middle of the two dials. The power indicator reserve rests at the top.

The crown in the 2 o'clock position controls winding and time setting tasks. Turning the crown clockwise in the first position wind the movement. Turning the crown clockwise and counterclockwise in the second position operates the dials on the left side and the right side respectively. The other crown at 4 o'clock synchs the seconds' function.

Chronomètre à Résonance aims to be unrivaled in precision, not only with its original movement design but also with its special technologies. The first 28 hours of the 42-hour power reserve can be spent with maximum efficiency thanks to the remontoir d'egalité, which is added to avoid the problem of decreasing the timing performance due to the change in the balance of amplitude caused by the decrease in the mainspring tension over time and the change in the energy oscillation. Therefore, for the remontoir d'egalité springs to work with the power remaining in the mainspring, the watch needs to be wound every 28 hours.

At the heart of the model is the hand-wound Caliber 1520. Made of 18K pink gold and measuring 34.2mm x 7.97mm, the 62 jewel movement beats at 21600vph and offers a 42-hour power reserve when fully wound.

Although the F.P. Journe Chronomètre à Résonance is not a limited edition, it will still be produced in small quantities every year. The model, which will be available by mid-2020, has already managed to be among the modern classics before its release.
