Are you ready to meet the new Girard Perregaux model produced with the most innovative material technology of recent years?
Patrick Pruniaux, who became the CEO of Girard Perregaux in 2018, was about to make significant decisions for the brand's future. One of the most prominent of these decisions was the debut of the Laureato Absolute Rock model, introduced in 2019, with a case produced by the combination of two materials, carbon and glass, which are surprising to be in the same sentence.
This revolutionary material is obtained by baking the glass fibers added between the carbon threads under very high temperatures and pressure in molds. Combined with the blue fiber used, forged-carbon exhibits a unique performance in terms of both durability and visual appeal. The weight of the case, which is 100 times more durable than stainless steel, is also significantly low. The case, which is light enough to float in the water with a specific weight of 1gr/cm3 only, dramatically increases the overall comfort of the watch.
When the octagonal bezel of the Laureato family is combined with the central case resembling an angular tonneau, a very characteristic appearance emerges. The 44mm x 14.65mm case offers a sporty look without sacrificing comfort, thanks to the patented carbon-glass technology. The case features a sapphire crystal on the front and a closed case back made of the same material as the case and is water-resistant to 50 meters.
The details on the dial are as impressive as the case of the watch. The Tri-Compax chronograph dial features the chronograph minute counter at 9 o'clock, the chronograph hour counter at 6 o'clock, and the small seconds counter at 3 o'clock. The date window at 4:40 boosts the model's practicality without disturbing the symmetrical appearance.
Girard Perregaux Laureato Absolute Rock beats with a modular architecture movement inside. Developed in-house, the automatic Caliber GP03300-1058 measures 25.95mm x 6.5mm, features 63 jewels, operates at a frequency of 4Hz (28800vph), and has a power reserve of 46 hours. The pressing feel of the chronograph pushers is a bit stiff, as would be expected from a modular chronograph movement.
The model comes on a fabric-effect, blue stitching, black rubber strap, and a PVD-coated titanium folding clasp. Thanks to the micro-adjustment compatible clasp, the strap adapts to all wrists. The cost of owning this unique watch, which is limited to 100 pieces only, is € 16.800.
