Girard-Perregaux, which enters the sapphire crystal watch trend with its latest model, takes the borders a step further. Quasar Light adds a new dimension to transparency with movement parts made of sapphire crystal.
I guess everybody knows about the Three Bridges models that Girard-Perregaux introduced to the world of traditional luxury watchmaking. The models, in which the main mainspring, hands, and balance were lined from top to bottom, created a fan base with their unique movement architectures. Today, Girard-Perregaux combines this special movement with sapphire crystal, the rising trend of luxury watchmaking.
The use of sapphire crystals on the front and rear sides of watch cases dates back to a long time ago. However, it has been only a few years since it started to be used as a case and bracelet material. Girard-Perregaux also managed to increase the usage area of sapphire crystal in its Quasar Light model. After being produced by synthetic methods, sapphire crystal is subjected to long processes on ultra-sensitive CNC machines. At the end of the day, a product with perfect clarity and maximum resistance to the wearing effects of time is formed.
Girard-Perregaux Quasar Light comes in a 46mm x 15.25mm sapphire crystal case. The model is water-resistant to 30 meters and is not equipped with a standard dial. Therefore, the hands are placed directly on top of the movement. The diamond-set ruthenium barrel is located at 12 o’clock while the white gold hands are present in the center. The Tourbillon escapement rests at 6 o’clock.
The model features the manufacture automatic Caliber GP09400-1128, which includes various sapphire crystal components. Measuring 36mm x 9.54mm,,, the 27-jewel movement beats at a frequency of 3Hz/21600vph and offers a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound.
It takes 200 hours of meticulous labor to produce only the case of the Quasar Light. The model is limited to a span of 18 units only and available on a metallic gray fabric strap with an MSRP of US$ 294,000.
