Green Watches

It is getting harder to be indifferent to the green dial watches introduced one after another in recent years. So, what do you think about the sudden and intense entry of green into the world of watches?

You have noticed that too, right? Many watch brands are promoting their green-themed watches one after another as if they agreed with each other. Or some brands imitate those watches, which achieved an enormous demand and sales success, hoping to have the same results.

In the world of watches, we are very used to black, white, and all the tones between these two. It is not surprising that this scale has high usage, as the advantage of these colors and intermediate forms in terms of versatility is solid. I hope you appreciate my effort to put the words black and white in sentences without adding the word color, as many sources do not define black and white as colors.

When we look at the basic colors, we see the clear superiority of blue and its tones. The reasons behind that are, again, versatility and adaptability. On the other hand, we often come across vibrant colors such as red and orange in various details. Sometimes in a line, sometimes in a frame, or even in a text.

So, how did green enter our lives so quickly among all these options? I want to approach this fact from several angles.

The first reason is the need to break the routine. Black, white, gray, and so on. We are bored. While the thought of a vivid, lively, and fascinating option is exciting, some watchmakers' skilled hands can turn the green into a work of art on the dials.

Of course, we have the undeniable Rolex reality. One of the most successful models in the world of watchmaking, Submariner with the LV (Lunette Verde) extension, carries the flag of the green watches at the forefront with the bezel on the first model, then both the bezel and the dial on the second model, and finally, again, on the bezel only. I am sure that Submariner LV iterations, Kermit, Hulk, Starbucks, which managed to get in the radars of people that are not genuinely related to the world of watches, are also the source of inspiration for many brands and models. Although Rolex is already a brand that has brought green to the world of watches years ago due to its logo, I am sure that the LV effect takes this fact a few steps further.

Well, what about the production of 5711A, undoubtedly the most popular watch by Patek Philippe that has been offered with a blue dial for many years, with a green dial after the official discontinuation statement by the brand CEO himself? Was this decision was taken years ago and the right time was awaited to pull the trigger, or did the changing market conditions over time have caused this change?

New watch markets, money shifting hands, changing customer expectations. To give a little more detail, the rapid change of money drastically affects the product strategies of brands. Well, in the end, brands realized that the real money was in the hands of the ones with oil gushing from their backyards rather than the stylishly dressed gentlemen.

Whether it is a bronze Panerai, a solid gold Daytona, or the new 5711. It seems inevitable that the green watch hype will lead the world of luxury watchmaking world for a while.
