Greubel Forsey, the shining star of Haute Horlogerie, launched its sportiest model ever. Introducing; the Balancier S.
Greubel Forsey is one of the first names that come to mind when it comes to movements designed and produced with breathtaking engineering. Being one of the few brands that have a comprehensive knowledge of a high-level complication such as the tourbillon like its dictionary definition, the Swiss micro-mechanic master introduced its most sportive design ever.
I say the sportiest because of the Greubel Forsey GMT Sport model, which was introduced towards the end of last year, symbolizing the first steps taken by the brand in sportiness with its new case and crystal design. Today, the Balancier S model takes the flag from GMT Sport even further in terms of sportiness with fewer complications. So, for Balancier S, we can ascribe evolution rather than a revolution. It is also an evolution that will highly increase the pulse of the watch world.
If we say that the Greubel Forsey Balancier S has the most interesting case design you will see we would not be making an exaggerated statement. The diameter of the case is 43mm at the bottom with an enlarging design to 45mm on the bezel. The thickness increases from 13.75mm at the ends where the straps are attached to 15.6mm towards the middle of the case. Despite all these strangeness of dimensions, the model is round when you look from the front. These extraordinary dimensions directly affect the bezel, sapphire crystal, and even the dial in terms of design. The model is made of titanium and is water-resistant to 100 meters, which suits a sporty watch.
The 12.6mm diameter balance wheel is at 6:30 position with a 30-degree angle on the extraordinary dial, or more precisely, at the top of the movement. This detail, which is a Greubel Forsey signature, is one of the essential elements to ensure the chronometric performance. The main plate and bridges of the movement are made of highly processed titanium. Therefore, the lightness claim of the watch is guaranteed not only with the case but also with the caliber.
A hand-wound caliber produced in 37mm x 10.62mm dimensions gives life to the Balancier S model. 42-jewels movement operates at a frequency of 3Hz (21600vph) and offers up to 72 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The unique caliber, which hosts hour and minute indicators on the suspended arch bridge, as well as a small second counter and a power reserve indicator, can be viewed - albeit partially - through the sapphire crystals on the front and back of the case.
Greubel Forsey Balancier S comes with a black rubber strap and titanium buckle combination integrated with the case. Limited to a span of 18 pieces only, the model is available with an MSRP of 195,000 CHF. A top figure for the world of watchmaking, yet a small one for Greubel Forsey.
