Ferrari, the famous Italian super sports car manufacturer, and Hublot, the brand that connects the traditional Swiss luxury watchmaking with the 21st century, get together... If it’s all about car and watch brands collaborating, what else can you really ask for? These two giant names of their own lanes, introduced a brand new collection at the Baselworld 2019 fair to likes of watch and automobile aficionados. The design stage of the collection was directed by Flavio Manzoni, the head of the Ferrari design team. Therefore, the new collection hosts many details referring to the super sports cars that the famous brand gives life to.
First, don’t be fooled by the fact that the new collection has the same name as the current Hublot Classic Fusion product line; because it is possible to say that we are facing a different model platform in the design side of the project. If your familiarity with the brand goes back a decade or so, the Ferrari GT Collection will surely does not look any Hublot to you. However, those who remember MDM periods of the brand will immediately recognize the familiar design details of the new collection.
The case of the model we opted for our review is made of carbon, which has become the basic material of motor sports in the modern age. Making an elegant nod to its inspiration with its matt surface and its unique three-dimensional patterns, the case measures 45mm in diameter and 12.15mm in height. The new model, similar to the other Hublot model families on paper, offers a much more compact appearance on the wrist. The contribution of the dark color palette to this situation is evident, but the lug design of the case, which reminds the early Hublot models, is the most important reason for the compact and ergonomic feel. If we include the low specific gravity of the material, we can say that the HUBLOT Classic Fusion Ferrari GT 3D Carbon is a perfectly comfortable model.
The bezel on the front side of the case is made of black ceramic. Though the number is slightly less than we used to see on the other models, the brand signature H-shaped screws are present on this model as well. The large winding crown adorned with Ferrari logo and nut shaped chronograph pushers are also among the characteristic details of the model. The case is equipped by anti-glare coated scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides and is water resistant to 100 meters / 10 bar.
The dial of the new model is also made of sapphire crystal. The color palette opted for the dial, which offers some details about the movement with its perforated designs, provides both an industrial and sporty image. While the large Arabic numeral hour markers and stick indexes evoke the dashboards of racing cars, the polished Ferrari logo tributes to the model’s inspiration elegantly.
HUBLOT Classic Fusion Ferrari GT model family beats with the manufacture Caliber Unico HUB1280 movement. Self-winding Flyback Chronograph movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800vph) and offers an efficient power reserve of 72 when fully wound.
The model we have here comes on a black calf leather strap with black rubber lining. The strap, which successfully directs the focus to the watch itself with its simple looks, is secured by a Ferrari design black ceramic and black-plated titanium deployant clasp.
