HYT, which is among the contradictory names of exotic watchmaking with its liquid system display, announced two new limited edition models added to the Moon Runner model family. Introducing HYT Moon Runner Ghost and HYT Moon Runner Desert.
The Moon Runner series uses HYT's core technology in all its models. The models are equipped with a capillary tube containing two immiscible liquids, one colored and one transparent. These fluids are moved by a bellows system, where one expands and the other contracts, moving the fluid along the pipe. One of the bellows also incorporates a built-in thermal compensation system to accommodate temperature changes and protect against fluid expansion and contraction. The same system also offers the ability to maintain the correct fluid pressure and boundary position between the two fluids. The cam and lever system that regulates the expansion and contraction of the bellows works extremely precisely, advancing the fluid by 1.5 microns per minute. It takes 12 hours for the liquid to complete its full rotation around the dial, and at the end of each 12-hour cycle, the bellows return to their original position. The colored liquid acts as a retrospective clock indicator. A scale is located on the inner flange of the dial to read the minutes via the triangular pointer. Two concentric and rotating titanium discs around the moon phase display feature an engraving to show the date and month next to the 6 o'clock index. However, the standout feature of the Moon Runner models is the central 3D moon phase display with an aperture showing the illuminated part of the Moon.
The new models come with a case of 48mm x 52.30mm x 17.20mm. The Ghost model has a case made of titanium and carbon materials, a black and silver PVD-coated crown, and silver side details with a black background. The Desert model, on the other hand, features a black-coated case made of titanium and carbon material with a sandblasted surface, a black PVD-coated crown, and black side details with a sand-colored background. The front of the cases, whose water resistance is limited to 30M, has a curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating.
Ghost houses a dial with 3D black plated appliqués on a black plated brass background, white phosphor numerals and white phosphor logo (with SLN blocks), black grilles with a black background, black liquid details in a borosilicate capillary tube. The same theme and components are used in the Desert model, but the numbers and logo come with sand color phosphor unique to the model.
Both models are powered by the Caliber HYT 601-MO movement. The proprietary movement developed by Eric Coudray includes a liquid display module added on top of its hand-wound architecture. Working at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800voh), the movement offers 72 hours of power reserve when fully wound. There is also a 3D Moon phase display in the movement, which offers fluid retrograde hours, central minutes, and day and month indicators.
The models, which come with a beige or black microfiber embossed black rubber strap and titanium buckle, are limited to 15 pieces each and carry a sticker price of CHF 125,000 (excluding taxes).
