IWC Schaffhausen, which mostly focused on the renovated Da Vinci Collection this year, has introduced a Re-Issue version of its legendary dive watch Ocean 2000. Here we are with the new model that we had the opportunity to see at IWC Boutique Istanbul.

Despite being a little overshadowed by the Pilot’s Watches and Portugieser Collection, Aquatimer Series is one of the most unique model families of the brand. The Schaffhausen brand’s history about diver’s watches is not that old. Started at 1967 with the launch of the “Aquatimer Ref. 812 AD”, the collection evolved with many successful models over time. The "Porsche Design Ocean 2000 Diver’s Watch" model, which is the result of the business collaboration with the German automobile manufacturer Porsche and introduced in 1982, is one of the most important milestones of this adventure. The model subject to our article is also produced exclusively for the 35th anniversary of this timepiece.

The new model is offered in a titanium case measuring 42mm x 14.5mm. With its total height of 14.5mm only, the model is the thinnest diver’s watch produced by IWC. Despite its relatively thin structure, the model is water resistant to an impressive figure of 2000 meters. The inner bezel, which is placed under the AR coated sapphire crystal, can be turned in one direction only by the winding crown located at 9 o’clock. With this feature, any accidental movement of the bezel under the water is prevented.

The model’s dial shares the same design clues with the rest of the Aquatimer model family. Beside the large hands and indices filled with SuperLuminova for optimum legibility in every occasion, the 2000 meters water resistance rating is indicated in red lettering. The date display is located at 3 o’clock position.

IWC Aquatimer Automatic 2000 Edition “35 Years Ocean 2000” is powered by the Caliber Ref. A30120. 21 jewels self-winding movement beats at 4Hz and offers a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. Though the movement is adorned with classic Côtes de Genève, it is not possible to see due to the solid titanium caseback decorated with a vintage diving helmet figure.
