To mark the IWC Racing team’s return to Goodwood after a two-year break, IWC and Hot Wheels are releasing IWC x Hot Wheels™ “Racing Works” set limited to 50 units.
Presented in a metal box, the set includes IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph Edition “IWC x Hot Wheels™ Racing Works” watch and a 1:64 scale diecast of the original 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing”, which the brand competes in classic car events through its own racing team, IWC Racing, established in 2018.
The first set produced will be put up for auction on October 16 - 22 through Bonhams. Proceeds from the sale of the set will go to the Two Bit Circus Foundation, a non-profit organization that creates learning experiences for children to inspire entrepreneurship, encourage young inventors, and instill environmental stewardship.
The new model comes with a titanium case measuring 43mm X 14.9mm. The micro sand-blasted case sports an AR-coated sapphire crystal resistant to sudden pressure drops on the front side. A sapphire crystal display is present on the rear side of the matt-finished case with the number 68, the door number of the 1955 model Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing. The case, sporting a Hot Wheels logo on the left side, is waterproof up to 60 meters.
The model features a checkered rally flag background dial, in line with the general theme. There is a day and date window at 3 o'clock. Phosphor applied Arabic numeral hour markers, and sword-style hands accompany the sporty dial.
Caliber 69385, designed and produced by the brand in-house, gives life to the new model. Equipped with column-wheel chronograph and day/date features, the automatic movement can offer up to 46 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
The model, which is limited to 50 pieces, is available on a textile strap with black and silver colors. The list price of the model that comes in a metal toolbox with a booklet, manual, limited-edition number plate, and a Hot Wheels Mercedes-Benz 300 SL diecast model is CHF 10,900.
