Added to the IWC product group three years ago, the second-generation IWC Portugieser Automatic 7-Days is now available in stainless steel.
If you are not familiar with the IWC brand or let’s filter further and say if you are not familiar with the Portugieser Collection, you will unlikely to be surprised to see this one as a new model. But I am sure that the loyal followers of the model family are very happy right now... PS: excluding 750 of them…
Let me explain why I told you that; IWC Portugieser Automatic 7-Days is a special timepiece which is among the most iconic models of the brand. Being one of the most successful samples of the neo-dress watch style, the model has been introduced in 2015 as a part of the renovated Portugieser Collection. The interesting part is that the new model is being offered for sale with a stainless steel case, as the IWC Portugieser Automatic 7-Days sporting a silver dial with rhodium plated Arabic numeral indices was available in a Platinum case only. The model, which has been first offered in a limited span of 250 units and 500 units afterwards, differentiated by its dial configuration that I mentioned above.
That’s why I think that 250+500 people will be upset upon the introduction of the stainless steel version which will look pretty much the same at first glance especially for those who are not very experienced but will cost dramatically less than the Platinum version.
The new model is offered in a stainless steel case measuring 42.3mm in diameter and in 14.2mm height. Equipped with double AR coated scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides, the case is water resistant to 30 meters.
The dial of the new model is identical to the limited edition Platinum versions with its silvery background and rhodium plated Arabic numeral indices. Designed in a Bi-Compax looking lay-out, the dial features a power reserve indicator a 3 o’clock and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock. The date display window is located at 6 o’clock.
IWC Portugieser Automatic 7-Days Stainless Steel (Ref. IW500712) is powered with the fully manufacture Caliber Ref. 52010 movement like the other models in the same series. 31 jewels self-winding movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28.8000vph) and offers a massive 168 hours (7Days) power reserve when fully wound. The movement is decorated with Côtes de Genève motifs which can be enjoyed through the sapphire crystal display case back.
The model that comes with a black alligator strap and IWC-signed stainless steel folding clasp, will hit the stores with a MSRP of 12,900 EUR.
