I am sure that IWC Schaffhausen would be one of the first brands that you recall when the words aviation and watches come together. The brand, which has a well-deserved reputation in pilot watches, reinforces its image with special models it introduces every year. IWC Schaffhausen, who continued the tradition and saluted its fans with the Timezoner Spitfire Edition “The Longest Flight” model at the SIHH this year, seems to be well prepared for a feast in terms of both technical and visual.

The model comes in a 46mm x 15.2mm stainless steel case that offers a bold presence on the wrist. Big onion shaped winding crown, which is a signature detail for classic pilot watches, is among the details to be appreciated. A crescent shaped display immediately attracts attention within the aviation inspired black dial. Operated by a black ceramic bezel and showing the time zones of the countries located in different meridians, the disc offers the user a complex feature with the simplest possible way. The disc in the dial is adjusted according to the desired country while the time and date of the position can be read from the dial by turning the bezel. For some countries with names on the bezel, daylight saving time information is also included.

The front of the watch features a double side anti-glare coated scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The case back is solid stainless steel and is decorated with the "Longest Flight" relief. The watch is water resistant to 60 meters / 6 bars. Apparently, IWC Schaffhausen is so confident that its pilot watches will not touch the water as it offers a water resistance rating that is a bit low in today’s standards for sports watches.

The model is powered by the manufacture Caliber 82760, which it is covered by the solid case back. The 284 parts / 22 jewels self-winding movement features the patented Pellaton winding system, beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800vph) and offers 60 hours power reserve when fully wound.

22mm lug-width green colored textile strap is one of the most pleasant details of the model. On the other hand, color and material strap combinations for a watch with this theme is virtually endless.

IWC Schaffhausen Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Spitfire Edition ”The Longest Flight“ is a limited edition of 250 pieces. The list price of 14.100 € is somewhat confusing. Why? Well, there a two main reasons that determine the MSRP of this model; complication and production number. If you do not care about the latter, than the IWC Schaffhausen Pilot Watch Timezoner Chronograph that offers the same complication with a bonus chronograph function retails less that the watch we have here. The choice is yours.
