Jaquet Droz introduced its latest automaton timepiece inspired by the Garden of Eden. The model is the latest version of the brand’s automaton collection debuted in 2012 and limited to 8 units only.
The latest automaton timepiece features the Jaquet Droz’s symbolic details by bringing the traditional watchmaking together with the art of engraving and miniature painting. The brand introduced its first automaton timepiece back in 2012 and the series had a new version each following year.
The scenery applied to the dial mimics the Garden of Eden and its famous waterfall with water flowing in a romantic fashion. The focus in the dial is again a hummingbird that is totally hand-carved and hand-engraved by the brand’s artists, which moves towards a shrub of vivid orange birds of heaven. The scene is precisely set with the beating wings of the bird with a rate of 40b/second. On the right side of the dial, there is a blue peacock that moves its tail, while a toucan appears behind the palm leaves at 3 o’clock. Three delicate dragonflies, with SuperLuminova-coated wings are visible at 9 o’clock position. In total, there are seven different animations that may exceed twelve seconds allow for up to 4 different scenarios.
The new model is powered by the brand’s in-house movement Caliber Ref. RMA89. Self-winding movement beats at 3Hz and offers an efficient power reserve of 86 hours when fully wound. Besides the time function, the movement is equipped with a Minute Repeater module that can be set to strike on demand for the hours, quarter hours, and minutes. The sound is produced when a single push on a dedicated set-up activates the hammers produce vibration by striking the cathedral style gongs.
This entire visual feast is offered in an 18K pink gold case measuring 47mm in diameter and 18.95mm in height. The case is equipped with scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both faces and adorned with hand-engraved motifs at each side.
Jaquet Droz Tropical Bird Repeater (Ref. J033033200) comes on a tropical green alligator strap that is secured by an 18K gold clasp. The model is limited to 8 units only with a MSRP of USD 661.500.00 (US list).
