Longines introduces a legendary diver’s watch from Heritage collection in Baselworld 2018: Legend Diver. Although the model already has its place in the current collection of the brand, it has became much more masculine with PVD coating while preserving its iconic specifications.
Before beginning my review about the watch, first I want to talk about Legend Diver model. Particular model was produced for sub-marine explorers, divers and military purposes and gained appreciation from watch lovers in short time. After a while, Longines added the modern version of this legendary version to its collection. As of Baselworld 2018, Legend Diver has attained a new look with black PVD coating.
From my personal point of view; Longines is trying to stay true to the original model as much as possible in the production of heritage models. But the previous Legend Diver model was so much loved and sold in the industry, Longines would’ve wanted to add a personal touch.
43 mm case features a domed sapphire crystal at the front side. The rotating bezel of the watch can be adjusted through the winding crown at 2 o’clock. Although the black PVD coating in the case is less durable against scratches and impacts, it is difficult to think negatively for the PVD coating, as the price advantage compared to its alternative; ceramic and compasite materials. Diving symbol is embossed at the case-back of the model. Legend Diver offers 300 m of water resistance.
When you take a look at the dial, it is hard to talk about a novelty. The dial design is identical with the current Legend Diver model and it stands out with its functionality. With its SuperLuminova coated big indeces and hands, legibility is at the highest level. The use of the black background in the date window is a plus feature and the integrity of the watch is preserved with the use of the same color both in indices and date disk font.
Caliber L888.2 powers the Longines Legend Diver. The caliber is based on ETA A31.L01, ticks with 25.200 amplitude vph and offers 64 hours of power reserve when it is fully wound.
New model comes with mesh style black rubber strap and PVD coated titanium folding clasp. I see that there are a lot of people who do not like as much as those who love rubber strap design. But I think if you see the strap closely, your mind is going to change in a positive way.
