The Longines Legend Diver, memorized with its legend-worthy story, is getting ready to conquer the depths of the oceans with its bronze case.
The reproduction of the Ref. 7042, one of the legendary diving watches of the 1960s, was added to the Longines catalogs in 2007, causing a bomb effect in the watch industry. Today, in 2020, the bronze version of the same model with a green to black dial version is preparing to explore the deep blue of the oceans.
Producing bronze watches is not something every manufacturer can handle. Of course, I am not talking about technical difficulties, any brand that produces stainless steel watches with today's production technologies may have the equipment to produce bronze cases as well. The point I want to highlight is about the mood and the character change that bronze adds to the watch. The term "a material that lives on the wrist" can be used for bronze, which is associated with maritime. The feeling of using a different watch every day with the new look of the oxidized material over time is described as extremely exciting for many watch lovers. Longines reinterprets the Legend Diver model with the glory of the bronze inherited from ancient times. The result is absolutely exciting.
Longines Legend Diver has a 42mm diameter bronze case. Longines, which includes one of the highest copper content bronze alloys on the market in its watches, draws attention with its pink gold-tone case. The front of the watch has a sapphire crystal, while the case back is made of stainless steel. The model is water-resistant to 300 meters. Equipped with an inner rotating diver’s bezel, the model sports a pair of winding crowns for time setting and bezel rotating. The dial, which has green tones that darken from the center to the periphery, has a design that is legible in all conditions, just like the original model produced in the 60s.
The model is powered by the brand's self-winding Caliber L888.3, which is based on ETA A31.L02 (that is also based on the legendary work-horse ETA 2892A2). 21-jewels/25.6mm diameter movement beats at a frequency of 25200vph and offers 65 hours of power reserve.
Longines Legend Diver Bronze, aka LLD Bronze, is offered with brown leather and green canvas strap options. Frankly, I think the oxidized look and green halos that the watch will take over time will be perfectly compatible with the canvas strap. By the way, do not forget that the oxidized look of your bronze watch is reversible, even at home.
