The Master Collection is known as the product group which is highly praised with its classic designs that the famous brand carries as well as its important features. The collection, which has been a guest of our pages previously with its Master Collection Chronograph Moon Phase model, is once again under the loupe with its retrograde dial version.

The dial of the model also includes the details that we often see in the Master Collection models, just like in the case. The dial, which shows typical Master Collection model features the Guilloche pattern and vintage style fonts, gets a full note from us about the detailed craftsmanship.

The Longines Master Collection Retrograde Moon Phase is available in two different versions, separated from each other by a pair of 41mm and 44mm designed cases. The model subject to our review is the 44mm version.

The stainless steel case of the timepiece bears the classic details that we are familiar with the rest of the collection. 44mm diameter case features a fully mirror polished surface. Despite its large size, it offers a very comfortable presence on the wrist. The case, with scratch-resistant sapphire crystal lenses on both sides, is a bit weaker to today’s standards with its 30M waterproof rating. There are two buttons on the right side of the case which control the retrograde style displays. The winding crown is elegantly shaped to match the overall design.

The Retrograde sub dials giving the name to the model are located at 3 and 9 o’clock positions. The indicator at 3 o’clock shows the date function while the other indicator at 9 o’clock reads the second time zone. The model adds a classical feel, supporting the nighttime / daytime indicator that accompanies the moon phase indicator, which we know, with a disc format that also includes an illustration.

Despite the various functions, the dial does not compromise on readability, and Rhodium surface coating is quite eye-catching.

Thanks to the Swatch Group, Longines is on its way with ETA’s infinite movement support. The timepiece is powered with the brand’s self-winding movement Caliber Ref. L707.2.

The version we have here is designed with a stainless steel bracelet with a combination of glossy and matte finishes. The bracelet, which increases the overall weight when it comes together with a hefty case of the watch, offers the possibility to use without compromising the wearing comfort thanks to its clever design. For users with a more classic look and a lighter watch, the model also features a leather strap with contrast stitching.
