Starfleet, created for the first time six years ago by MB&F and L’Epée 1839, is brought to the tables as Starfleet Explorer with its more compact size and bright colors.
We all know how clever MB&F is in designing time machines. Carrying luxury watchmaking to another dimension with its watches, the brand continues to surprise us with every new model. Starfleet Explorer, the spaceship-desk clock designed by MB&F and carried to the tables by Swiss L'Epée 1839, which specializes in producing luxury desk clocks, proves our words.
There is a reason why Starfleet Explorer got this name. The mini spacecraft not only displays hours and minutes but also offers a simulation in which the three spacecraft perform the five-minute trajectory of the station. The 'in-house' movement, which operates the clock and can be seen at a glance, provides an eight-day power reserve in full setup. The movement can be wound manually with the double-ended wrench, which is also used to adjust the time.
Starfleet Explorer also features a significantly original new element in the form of three tiny spacecraft, lined up along the same axis at regular intervals and placed inside the actual Starfleet movement, the heart of the mechanism, around which they revolve at a rate of one full turn every five minutes: a space exploration guided by the mothership.
The movement of the Starfleet Explorer is placed horizontally, and the escapement vertically. Gears and coveralls are visible thanks to the skeletonized base plate and the concentric C-shaped outer structure.
In this imposing spacecraft, hours and minutes are read through two discs, thanks to the opening and with a brightly colored hand. The hour disc, placed just below the minute, does not move. Instead, the anodized, matte hour hand rotates a full turn to display the time.
Combining the powers of MB&F and L'Epée 1839, Starfleet Explorer meets enthusiasts with a price tag of 10,700 CHF. The model is limited to a span of 99 per each version available in blue, green, and red color options.
