Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711, one of the most popular luxury watch models of all time, has a new movement now. Let’s find out what has changed in this quiet update...
Patek Philippe’s position in the world of traditional luxury watchmaking no longer requires introduction… Today, the brand is home to the most desirable and appreciating models of the luxury watchmaking industry. When we combine the concepts of ‘desirable’ and ‘appreciating’ in particular, the first model that comes to mind is the Ref. 5711.
The model’s increasing popularity in the recent few years, especially with the stainless steel/blue dial combination Ref. 5711/1A, is changing the whole game for the world of luxury watches. Due to years of waiting lists and 5711/1A fans on social media (or the gentleman resellers that act like fans), the current resale value of this model in the second-hand market is more than a second-hand Rolex Daytona Ref. 116506 (yes, that platinum one) costs!
OK, let’s leave this matter, which has nothing to do with logic in any way, to another article and get to the point; 5711 has a new movement now...
The movement that started to power the 5711 model family is called Caliber 26-330 S C. Die-hard Patek fans and careful watch enthusiasts would remember, this movement shares the same platform with the caliber used in the recently introduced Patek Philippe Calatrava Weekly Calendar Ref. 5212A-001. The most notable upgrade about the new movement that found its way in the 5711 by sacrificing its Weekly Calendar feature is the hacking seconds i.e. the second-hand stops when you pull the winding crown.
The 30 jewels self-winding movement, which bears the Hallmark of Geneva as with all Patek Philippe products, beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800vph) and offers a power reserve of up to 45 hours when fully wound. The 212-piece movement is wound by a 21K solid gold rotor decorated with the Patek Philippe emblem. Designed with a diameter of 27mm and a thickness of 3.30mm, the new movement can be enjoyed through the sapphire crystal display case back just like its predecessor.
We don’t know about the upcoming references equipped with this new movement but considering the three-hand automatics in the Patek Philippe product line and the Weekly Calendar Ref. 5212A-001 model, we can say that there will be more to come.
