The Luminor Due Collection is closely followed by the watch enthusiasts that have just met with Panerai as well as the brand’s loyal followers, since the day it joined the product line of the famous Italian origin brand. We have the PAM00741 Luminor Due 3 Days Oro Rosso 42mm model form the collection which attracts attention with its 18K pink gold case and unusual dial.
The Luminor Due collection, which was added to the Officine Panerai lineup for the first time in 2016, came up as the brand’s first new case design after a long break. Panerai added four different new models to the collection this year which is considered as one of the most successful product lines of Panerai.
As our Executive Editor Serdar OAL, who is a loyal Paneristi, mentioned in his article named “Why Do I Wear A Panerai Luminor Due?”, the collection is among my favorites also with its design that combines the brand’s DNA with a compact and versatile case form.
The model we have chosen for you from this young collection is actually quite an interesting piece as a combination of an ivory dial and blue accents is pretty rare for Panerai.
PAM00741 is offered in a 42mm Luminor Due style case. The case, which bears the title of the thinnest Panerai ever made, may have slightly offended the loyal Paneristi with its compact design but on the other hand it was also a game changer for the brand in terms of a totally new clientele.
The case is made of 18K pink gold. Although I am a big fan of gold watches, I have to admit that I was a bit distant to the “gold Panerai” concept. The major reasons behind that is undoubtedly the brand’s military DNA and tool watch character. But especially after seeing the mighty gold Submersible PAM00684, I totally changed my mind.
The case is equipped with scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides. Thanks to its brilliant design, the case sits on the wrist comfortably showing a dressier look with it’s fully mirror polished finish. The low water resistance rating was one of the most criticized features of the new Luminor Due Collection and regarding this PAM741, it still is. I can understand sacrificing the screw-lock caseback for a snap-on one in order to have a thinner case, but 30 meters? Come on... I hope Panerai will do something about this issue.
The most interesting part of the PAM00741 is undoubtedly its dial. Considering the brand’s past designs and current product line, and ivory dial with blue accents is quite a rare combo. The dial features Arabic numerals in blue and a set of pink gold hands. The SuperLuminova on the indices and hands is applied in a darker tone which we are familiar with vintage style timepieces. As it is with the rest of the Panerai models, legibility is perfect.
Officine Panerai Luminor Due 3 Days Oro Rosso - 42mm ticks with the brand’s in-house movement Caliber Ref. P.1000. The movement beats at 28800vph and offers a power reserve of 72 hours thanks to its double barrels. With a total height of 3.85mm, the movement suits with the thinner structure of the Luminor Due 42mm case nicely and it is visible through the sapphire crystal display caseback.
The model comes on a perfectly matching blue alligator strap. The strap, which plays an important role in PAM00741’s eye-catching appearance, is secured by a Panerai signed standard buckle made of 18K gold.
Officine Panerai Luminor Due 3 Days Oro Rosso - 42mm is definitely a very interesting timepiece. It is surely a very beautiful watch in terms of aesthetics but when it comes to the buying part, it is not the answer for the “Which Panerai?” question. In fact, it’s not the answer for the “Which gold Panerai?” question for me either. As a watch enthusiast who previously owned a few Panerai models like 005, 111, 002 and 104, it’s no surprise that an 18K pink gold Panerai with a ivory dial and blue accents entering my shopping list right from the end. But if the idea of having the Panerai experience in a compact but stylish size and an extraordinary color palette, you should definitely see the PAM00741 in person.
