Omega announced (or leaked) this morning that it is bringing two new special editions to the Speedmaster catalogue. The Speedmaster Racing, and the Speedmaster Cappuccino. Let’s start with the Speedmaster Racing.
After Omega’s VERY successful launch of its Reverse Panda Dial Special Edition last month, it proved that it can maneuver and add to the arguably most recognizable timepiece outside of Rolex. While it’s no secret that Speedmasters hold a very broad, but very loyal fan-base, who doesn’t always react to change, this is a bolder move for Omega.
Being equipped with an orange accented leather strap, to match the orange accented dial, gives a splash of color and dimension to an iconic timepiece. Personally, I have always loved the checker pattern ring around the dial, and I feel that the orange accents only add to it. No official size has been announced yet, but it will likely be 44mm, as as the Mark II from 2014. Powered with the Calibre 9900, this watch will price in at about $11,700, making it very competitive in the Omega market.
The second piece is the Speedmaster Two-Tone Cappucino. Measuring in at 38mm, with a stainless steel case with 18k Sedna gold for the bezel and pushers, this watch is designed to be uni-sex. The diamonds on the bezel give yet another bold statement from Omega, and that is going to be controversial for the community. Pair that with the pink gold, and many are going to debate whether this is too feminine for a man’s wrist, and too big for a ladies.
Powered with the Calibre 3330, the standard Co-Axial movement for Omega’s chronographs, this watch is prices at $12,900.
Both watches are expected to be officially announced at BaselWorld 2017.
