Omega adds a new version to the Speedmaster 321 family, inspired by the legendary Ref: CK2915 model produced in 1957, made of Canopus Gold, the brand's patented white gold alloy.
Omega Speedmaster's place in the world of watches is well known. The model family, which is among the most iconic chronographs of all time, continues to attract the appreciation of watch lovers with retro-themed editions as well as modern versions. The Speedmaster 321, which is among the cult models of the product group, adorns the dreams of watch enthusiasts with its similarity to the Ref: CK2915, which was introduced in 1957 and is considered one of the most special Speedmaster models. Bringing this characteristic model, which is considered the starting point of the Speedmaster legend, to the present day, the Speedmaster 321 collection is expanding with a new version today.
Before moving on to the new model, it is worth remembering once again the details of the original design, aka the Broad Arrow: the hour hand with an arrow-shaped tip, the dagger-shaped minute hand, the symmetric triangular lugs, and, of course, the metal bracelet with parallel straight links. All of these features are also included in the new version. So, what distinguishes the current model from other versions? Let's have a look...
Designed to crown the 65th anniversary of the legendary model, the new version comes with a case made of Canopus Gold, the brand's patented 18K white gold alloy. The charismatic case, which is appreciated for its loyal design to the original model, promises a comfortable use on the wrist with its 38.6mm diameter and 14mm overall height. There is a domed sapphire crystal that mimics old hesalite crystals on the front side of the case. The case back features a laser engraved seahorse symbol on the sapphire crystal display. The characteristic no-insert bezel is also present at the front side of the case, which hosts engraved numerals filled with black Grand Feu enamel. As an important detail, the winding crown features the NAIDAD logo, which is the brand's patented locking system. This detail is also featured on some early Ref: CK2915 models, symbolizing resistance to water pressure.
The new version's dial is also appreciated for its resemblance to the original model. Omega has preferred a black onyx stepped dial with an applied vintage OMEGA logo and typography featuring the “oval O” (typical for the first CK2915 models). 18K white gold hands and Canopus Gold PVD coated indices accompany the dial that offers excellent legibility in almost any environment thanks to its sufficient contrast and modern white (not ecru) tone Super-LumiNOVA applied accents.
As the name suggests, Caliber 321 movement ticks inside the new Omega Speedmaster 321 Canopus Gold. The hand-wound Caliber 321, which was introduced in 2019 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 space mission, has a special place for Omega. Designed as a Re-Issue movement, Caliber 321 is manufactured and assembled in a dedicated section within Omega's cutting-edge technology factory. Equipped with a column wheel and horizontal clutch chronograph feature, the model offers 55 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The movement, which can be watched with pleasure through the sapphire crystal case back, offers a visual feast with its Sedna Gold plated components.
The new model comes with a flat link bracelet, another detail that refers to the original model. Made of 18K Canopus Gold alloy, the 19mm lug-width bracelet is secured by a button-release clasp equipped with a comfortable adjustment feature.
The timepiece is presented in a special wooden box, crafted with a Rosewood-like pattern in honor of the collection’s 65th anniversary. The shape and design of the box are inspired by the box of the original model introduced in 1957. The MSRP is CHF 75,000 (tax excluded).
