Omega introduced the new Speedmaster model, designed in memory of the Apollo 13 Space Mission and the Silver Snoopy Award it received afterward.
The new model, the third version with a Snoopy theme, comes with a 42mm diameter, classic Speedmaster style case. The case is accompanied by a blue tachymetric bezel. On the front is a curved sapphire crystal, referring to the original Moonwatch's plastic crystal. The case back is perhaps one of the most interesting components of the watch.
On the case back are the moon, the earth, and white CSM (Command and Service Module) figures with Snoopy illustration inside. When the model's chronograph function is activated, Snoopy and his capsule move towards the far side of the Moon - just like the Apollo 13 team did. The disk with the earth figure is connected to the small second hand of the movement and completes one full turn in one minute. In the meantime, thanks to the NAIAD lock system used on the case back, all illustrations on the back cover always stay in the upright position.
The dial of the model is made of Grade 925 silver. For the chronograph sub-dials on a silver background, the blue tone used in the bezel is chosen. The hands (except the sub-dials at 3 and 6 o'clock), the markers, and the Omega logo are also prepared in the same tone. The Snoopy figure and the "50th Anniversary" inscription are engraved on the sub-dial at 9 o'clock. Let's add that this figure in the sub-dial was prepared exactly the same way as the silver pin given to the NASA astronauts.
The new model beats with the METAS certified Caliber 3861 movement, which we are familiar with from different Speedmaster models. 26-jewels hand-wound movement works at a frequency of 3Hz (21.600vph) and offers up to 50 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th Anniversary (Ref. 310.32.42.50.02.001) is available on a blue nylon strap. The model, which has a cleaning cloth and magnifier in its own special box, takes its place in the brand's product group as standard production, not a limited one.
