Oris Aquis Date Calibre 400

Oris Aquis Date Calibre 400

Oris, one of the shining names of independent brands, introduced its new model equipped with the recently announced in-house movement Caliber 400.

In the globalizing world, it is truly admirable for a brand that produces industrial products to be self-sufficient. Many brands, which continue their activities in a wide range of business areas ranging from the automobile industry to white goods, need out-sourced components and systems.

The reflection of this situation in luxury watchmaking is quite different. The movements that we call In-House or Manufacture, offer significant advantages such as creating a platform to design different variations for the manufacturer and increasing the perception of prestige.

The most recent example in this context is the Oris and Caliber 400 duo. The movement, which is the brand's own design and production, gives life to the new Oris Aquis Date model. Although the movement plays the leading role in the features offered by the new model, user-friendly innovations that will win the appreciation of watch enthusiasts are also included. Let's take a closer look at this new model (and movement) now.

The Oris Aquis Date Caliber 400 comes in a 43.5mm diameter stainless steel case. On the front of the masculine case, there is a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflection coating and a unidirectional diver bezel with a blue ceramic insert. Let us remind you that this bezel hosts the first blue insert used on the Oris Aquis Date 43.5mm platform. The case, which can withstand 300 meters of water pressure with the screw-in crown protected by thick guards, is accompanied by a sapphire crystal display case back.

The dial of the new model carries the signature details of the Aquis model family. Super-LumiNOVA phosphor filled markers and hands accompany the blue dial, which gradually darkens from the center outwards. The dial, which also has a date window at the 6 o'clock position, also refers to the movement ticking inside the model with the text "5 Days" added on the lower side.

Undoubtedly, the most intriguing component of the model is the beating movement in its heart. The Caliber 400, developed and produced entirely by Oris, is an automatic movement. The movement, which is enjoyed through the largest sapphire crystal display case back ever offered in the Aquis Date model family, impresses with its low-friction sliding bearing perforated rotor and its double-barrel system that can offer 5 days (120 hours) of power reserve when fully installed. Thanks to the production of essential components such as the escapement wheel from silicon, Caliber 400 provides anti-magnetic protection in ISO 764 standards.

The Oris Aquis Date Caliber 400 comes with a patented quick-change system, which is also a first in the model. The model, which has both an integrated stainless steel bracelet and black rubber strap options, is preparing to decorate the windows as of November 2020.
