Officine Panerai, which has decided to celebrate 2020 by concentrating on the legendary product group Luminor, has created a new collection with alternative materials. Arguably, the most well-known design of the brand, Luminor is appreciated with its Panerai Luminor Marina - 44 mm (PAM01662) model that emphasizes the high-tech concept.
The most important feature of the model, designed in the classical Luminor style, is the innovative materials used in its production. In the construction of the 44mm diameter and 14.2mm high case, sandblasted DMLS titanium alloy was used. Both very lightweight and extremely durable, the case is made with Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) technology. In this 3D printing process, the high-power fiber optic laser-sintered titanium powder grows at a scale of 30 microns (0.03 mm) and takes on a uniform shape. The process has to be implemented correctly at once, because otherwise, a deformity may occur. In combination with Carbotech ™, a carbon alloy developed in Panerai Laboratorio di Idee, the use of this material in the bezel, crown, and Safety Lock crown guard also adds a modern and industrial look to the watch. Sapphire crystal is used on the front of the case, and a black DLC coated titanium cover is used on the back. The model is water-resistant to 300 meters.
The model's Sandwich style dial has a matt anthracite background. The super-LumiNOVA hour markers and figures in tone-on-tone colors provide a contrast that is in harmony with the tone of the case material while adding a monochrome atmosphere to the model as well as offering excellent legibility in darker environments.
The Panerai Luminor Marina - 44 mm (PAM01662) model features the Caliber P.9010 movement, designed and produced in the brand's factory in Neuchatel. The operating frequency of the 31-jewel/200-piece automatic movement is set at 4Hz / 28.800vph, and the power reserve it provides when fully wound is 72 hours (3 days). Glucydur ™ balance and Incabloc ™ anti-shock system are used in the movement that includes hour, minute, small seconds, and date functions.
Two different straps have been added to accompany the new model. In addition to the first strap using anthracite stitches on black Panerai Sportech ™ material, a black rubber strap was also added. To accompany both straps, a DLC-coated titanium buckle designed in trapezoidal shape is used.
