Panerai PAM 1346

Panerai PAM 1346

Panerai introduced a new model that will fulfill every Paneristi's dreams. However, let me warn you; Some details about the watch may discourage you.

We can say that the newly introduced PAM 1346 is a magnificent reinterpretation/production of the watches produced exclusively for the Italian Navy in the 60s. This model, unfortunately, will not go into mass production. It will be put up for auction on November 3, 2023, at an auction to benefit UNESCO.

If there is such a thing as the vintage Panerai spirit, I think this should be the newest production model that keeps that spirit alive. PAM 1346 has a case size of 47mm in diameter. Platinum is used as the case material in this special model. I can't even imagine how heavy the watch is. The case form has been reinterpreted specifically for this watch. While the middle case is kept quite low, the bezel and case back parts are designed quite high. The lugs are also special for this reference, inspired and sketched by the original designs. The lucky owner of this one-off watch will have both sapphire crystal and plexiglass options. In addition to the sapphire crystal display case back, the box content also includes a solid case back made of platinum.

PAM 1346 has a dial design that could be every Paneristi's dream. The sandwich dial hosts the numbers 12, 3, 6, and 9, as well as a small seconds display and 4 lines of text. I'm sure many Panerai enthusiasts are aware of how important and rare the phrase Marina Militare written on the top is for the brand. On the other hand, at the heart of the watch is the Angelus SF240 caliber, which has an 8-day power reserve and is also seen in historical Panerai models. Originally designed as a table clock movement, SF240 is a historical caliber that has found a place among Panerai's cases that require longer power reserves.

It is not difficult to guess that the sales price of PAM 1346, which comes in a special presentation box, will be over 100,000 Euros. I hope that a similar model, with a more accessible movement and steel case, will go into mass production and the appetite of Panerai fans will be whetted, again after a long time.
