Seiko announced the newest model designed and produced exclusively for the 30th anniversary of the Landmaster collection, one of the favorite model families of mountaineers and adventurers.
Seiko, Japan's rightful pride in the world of watches, continues to produce models that can appeal to the masses with its extensive Prospex product group. The Prospex series, which stands out with its models suitable for almost every type of user profile, especially those who are interested in sports-themed watches, is expanding with a new model that brings to the fore the Landmaster collection, which celebrates its 30th anniversary today.
The Landmaster series, which was added to the collection in 1993, was the right address for not only mountaineers but also thousands of users who were eager to show their adventurous spirit while working at the desk, with its robust and reliable structure as well as its sporty appearance. Now let’s take a closer look at the anniversary model of this thematic series.
The new model comes with a titanium case designed with a diameter of 42mm and a height of 12.7mm. The alloy, which eliminates the relatively weak structure of titanium against scratches via Seiko's super hard coating technology, promises optimal comfort on almost every wrist, despite the 50.1mm lug-to-lug distance. On the front of the sporty case, there is a bi-directional compass-style bezel and sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The sporty case, which mostly features matte surfaces, is resistant to water pressure up to 200 meters, with the help of a screw-in case back and winding crown.
SLA071 comes with a dial that does wonders in terms of fast and clear legibility, which is among the general features of the model family. The dial, with a background pattern that was inspired by the aerial view of the summit of Mount Everest, features thick hands and indices filled with Lumbrite phosphor. The dial, which draws attention with its blue background color that lightens in a gradient from 12 to 6 o'clock, has a date window at 3 o'clock.
The new model is powered by the Caliber 8L35 movement. The automatic caliber, which we know with the reference Caliber 9S55 in the Grand Seiko movement family, operates at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph) and can offer a power reserve time of up to 50 hours when fully wound. Although the movement, which was assembled by hand at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in Morika (Japan), remains hidden from view due to the closed case back, it underlines the importance and care the brand attaches to the new model.
The stylish model is completed by a titanium bracelet with a three-piece link design. At the end of the bracelet, there is a folding clasp with a quick extension system. The model, which is scheduled to reach sales points as of November 2023, is limited to only 1000 units.
