Cymbals, drums, trumpets, pianos... Oris continues the Watch Jazz Watches ’series, which embraces high-quality music lovers and honors Jazz artists, with the new Art Blakey Limited Edition.
Art Blakey, one of the talented artists of the Jazz community, was born in 1919 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The son of a religious family, Blakey learned to play the piano at an early age. His early-started piano career ended early as well as he started to play drums soon after. From 1939, he worked with important musicians such as Fletcher Henderson, Billy Eckstine, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Sarah Vaughn.
In 1954, the musician met with pianist Horace Silver, altoist Lou Donaldson, trumpeter Clifford Brown and bassist Curly Russell and recorded ‘live’ at the Blue Note Records label jazz club Birdland. The following year, Jazz Messengers were established under the leadership of Horace Silver and Blakey. Jazz Messenger continued performing for many years even though there were quitting members and newcomers. Blakey, who passed away in 1990, received many awards including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Oris Art Blakey Limited Edition is limited to only 1000 units and comes in a 38mm diameter stainless steel case. An anti-glare coated sapphire crystal covers the dial while the case back is engraved with special motifs including a cymbal. The case is resistant to water pressure up to 30 meters.
The Sellita SW 200-1 based movement Oris 733 powers the model. The self-winding movement offers a power reserve of 30 hours when fully wound.
The silver-white opaque dial includes drum claws as hour markers. Super-LumiNova filled hands offer easy legibility under dark, creating a very pleasant look.
