Omega offers horology enthusiasts the chance of traveling through time with its new museum.
The luxury Swiss watchmaker Omega opened a new museum in its campus at La Cité du Temps in Biel / Bienne. The museum, designed by award-winning architect Shigeru Ban, brings horology enthusiasts together with many interactive experiences, intriguing displays, and immersive films.
The journey in the museum begins with a trip between the continents. On the ground, a large world map with digital devices tells the time in different places around the globe.
Visitors have the chance to travel through time before moving on to other parts of the museum. A 360-degree video of the brand, History of Time, showing the quest for humanity’s passion from the oldest clocks to contemporary movements.
If you wish in the new museum, including the famous starting blocks and red electronic start gun, equipped with "Official Time Holder" technology, you can reveal the Olympic athlete in you on the 9m running track. You can even print out photo finishes with the Scan ‘o Vision device, which can record 10,000 digital images per second.
The ‘Women’s Time‘ exhibition at the Omega Museum reveals the evolution of women’s watches from the first Lépine necklaces and Ladymatic to hidden jewelry watches and today’s collections.
İt would not be Omega Museum without a section regarding the first step on the Moon. Visitors can rediscover Omega’s space story with the Moon surface beneath their feet, the Lunar Rover, videos, photos, NASA technology and many historically important versions of the Moonwatch.
Since James Bond GoldenEye, which was introduced to the audience in 1995, 007 has been accompanied by an Omega through his dangerous missions. Participants can also take a closer look at Bond’s watches.
In the new museum, visitors can walk around the movement without being stuck to the gears. The gigantic Speedmaster, which can be walked in, regularly shows a fascinating animation that reveals the interior of the famous Co-Axial escapement.
Omega Museum, which brings visitors together with its 50m steel bracelet with 64 treasure showcases, can be visited in Biel / Bienne between 11.00 - 18.00 on Tuesdays and 10.00 - 17.00 on Saturdays and Sundays.
