With its new model, Blast Moonstruck, Ulysse Nardin brings a modern and extraordinary perspective to the astronomical complication of master watchmaker Ludwig Oechslin.
It is possible to say that Ulysse Nardin Blast Moonstruck is inspired by the trilogy of astronomical watches created by Ludwig Oechslin nearly forty years ago. Before moving on to the model, let's remember what Oechslin said about his ingenious designs;
“I am delighted that my watches and astronomical clocks enable people to think about their position in the universe and perhaps realize that we are not the center of the world.”
The new model comes with a 45mm diameter case. The case, which consists of black ceramic and black DLC coated components, has sapphire crystals on the front and back. On the left side of the case, which is resistant to water pressure up to 30 meters, there are large pushers to move the main display forward/backward at 1-hour intervals.
The black and rose gold detailed dial of the model hosts a display of interlocking rings. Following functions are monitored via the dial; domed sapphire crystal representation of Earth from the North Pole with engraved landmasses - moon phases and days of lunar month - orbiting Sun - world time and dual time with 24h night & day scale - 24 reference cities printed on flange - tidal coefficients gauged by moon phases - date ring around domed central area - triangular pointer for date and hour and minute hands treated with luminescent material.
The Caliber UN-106 movement, which has a 50-hour power reserve, functions under the three-dimensional dial. The automatic movement, which operates at a frequency of 4Hz/28,800vph, offers a power reserve time of up to 50 hours when fully wound. The 335-piece movement, which is wound by a 22K solid rose gold rotor, also includes high-tech components such as silicon escapement and spring.
The model, which has black crocodile leather, velvet, and rubber strap options, is fixed to the wrist with a black DLC coated titanium and rose gold folding clasp.
The list price for the model, which is limited to only 40 pieces, is CHF 75,000.
