I don’t there is any watch enthusiast out there who doesn’t know about Ulysse Nardin’s glorious past that is highly related with modern naval history. The brand, which has its own place in naval history thanks its Marine Chronometer devices designed for professional use, has a unique fan base for its designs that carry the DNA of this heritage. The model we have here is the Marine Regatta model, which was also the winner of the Sports Prize at the GPHG 2017, the most prestigious competition in the world of luxury watchmaking.
Ulysse Nardin offers a very large product group since the early 2000s. With its two locomotive collections as Marine Chronometer and Marine Diver, the brand’s product line offers a number of mechanical and aesthetic combinations, as well as many material options.
Marine Regatta comes in a stainless steel case measuring 44mm in diameter. The case is equipped with anti-glare treated scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides and is water proof up to 100 meters / 10 bars. On the front side of the case, there is a bezel designed with large notches. Offering a bold and sporty look with its mirror polished/satin brushed combined surfaces and large thick lugs, the case sports a pair of chronograph pushers and a screw-in winding crown that are complemented by blue toned rubber accents.
The dial of the model has been designed with a bright blue background, which has left its mark on 2016 and has not lost its popularity since. Due to the Regatta Timer feature, the model features one of the busiest dials in the Marine Chronometer line-up but still manages to stay loyal to the iconic Ulysse Nardin style dial lay-out. Accompanied with metal applique indices (Roman numeral at 12), the dial hosts the 10 minutes Regatta Timer display and a 12-hour monopusher chronograph shown through a sub-dial located at 6 o’clock. Bright yellow indications are used for the Regatta Timer function where the date display window is also present at 6 o’clock. Super LumiNOVA phosphor material is applied to the hands and indices for optimum legibility under darker conditions. The Regatta Timer feature, which can hold a 10-minute interval on the dial designed as nested circular sections, is indicated by a vivid yellow tone index. The 12-hour chronograph function is presented to the user via the sub-dial located at 6 o’clock. The Super LumiNOVA phosphor material on the dial with a date window placed in the lower dial provides optimum readability in dark environments.
Ulysse Nardin Marine Regatta is powered by the brand’s manufacture movement Caliber UN-155. 55 jewels self-winding movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz (28.800vph) and offers an impressive 72-hours (3 days) power reserve when fully wound. Featuring 10 minutes Regatta Timer and 12 hours chronograph functions as well as a date display, the movement is equipped with cutting edge technology components like a silicium escapement and hairspring, which are introduced to the industry by Ulysse Nardin.
The model comes on the brand’s iconic multi-piece rubber strap.
