Even if we have left the SIHH 2017 behind, there are some timepieces that we cannot pass without mentioning. One of them is the Ulysse Nardin Marine Tourbillon, which stands out with its price/performance ratio.

The brand’s current timepieces are still inspired by Marine Chronometers and other navigation equipments.

This year there were some brands in SIHH 2017, which managed to go one step ahead of the others. Ulysse Nardin, who is among these special brands with their concept watch "Innovision" in particular, brought a new perspective to Tourbillon watches with its Ulysse Nardin Marine Tourbillon model.

Ulysse Nardin, who has been manufacturing timing equipment since 1846, started with producing Marine Chronometers and other navigation equipment used in ship decks in its early years. The brand’s current timepieces are still inspired by those equipments.

Let’s take a closer look at the Marine Tourbillon model, where we have the opportunity to view at the brand’s spectacular booth at SIHH 2017. The new model is offered in a stainless steel case measuring 43mm in diameter. The case features AR coated sapphire crystals on both sides and is water resistant up to 100 meters.

The timepiece sports a white dial made of enamel. The dial is finished with "Grand Feu" technique which gives it the porcelain smoothness and shine. Designed in classic Marine Chronometer lay-out, the dial features a pair of sub-dials positioned at 12 and 6 o’clock. The sub-dial at 12 o’clock positions houses the power reserve indicator while the sub-dial at 6 o’clock position hosts a perforated window displaying the “flying tourbillion” escapement.

Ulysse Nardin Marine Tourbillon is powered with the brand’s in-house movement Caliber Ref. UN-128. Despite its amazing flying tourbillion feature, the self-winding movement beats at 4Hz and offers 60 hours of power reserve when fully wound. Thanks to the sapphire crystal display, the movement can be seen through the caseback.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the article, Ulysse Nardin Marine Tourbillon comes with an unexpected price tag. The MSRP of the model, which combines Ulysse Nardin quality with flying tourbillion complication, is 28,000 CHF. I would especially recommend this special model, which is out of the usual patterns as both brand and specs wise, to watch aficionados who are looking for a timepiece in the classic tourbillon concept but have to postpone shopping due to the top figure price tags.
