Vacheron Constantin has added a new model to the Métiers d’Art Collection, a product group that amazes the collectors as well as the Haute Horlogerie enthusiasts. The new model is dedicated to the Year of the Dog, which will start by 16th February 2018 according to the traditional Chinese calendar.
The newly announced models come in cases measuring 40mm x 12.7mm. The cases are offered in platinum or 18K pink gold. Equipped with double AR coated scratch resistant sapphire crystal glasses on both sides, the case is water resistant to 30 meters. In addition to the winding crown, there is a recessed button at the side of the case that is used to set the calendar functions of the timepieces.
All the motifs in the new models’ 18K gold dials are applied by hand. The embossed dog figure, which is prepared as platinum or 18K pink gold depending on the version, is formed directly on the metal base. Different levels of relief and coloring are used to provide a three-dimensional view of the figure. The ground surrounding the dog figurine is made from enamel using the Grand Feu technique
The model’s hour, minute, day, and date functions can be read from separate displays located at four different points on the dial. The hour and minute indicators drag forward while the day and date functions change as Jumping Type.
The new models are powered by the brand’s in-house Caliber Ref. 2460 G4. 27 jewels self-winding movement beats at 28800vph and offers a power reserve of 40 hours when fully wound. Hallmark of Geneva certificated movement comes with a 22K solid gold oscillating rotor and can be enjoyed through the sapphire crystal display caseback.
The new models come with two different alligator straps as dark blue or brown. The straps are secured with platinum or 18K pink gold folding clips, which are hand-sewn and alligator leather lined, in accordance with the case material.
Both models are limited to only 12 units and are only offered at Vacheron Constantin boutiques. The box set of the models includes a magnifying glass and a special apparatus for pressing the button used to adjust the calendar functions.
