Vacheron Constantin introduced new models for its highly acclaimed Overseas Collection in SIHH 2017 exhibition and made this collection more powerful in terms of product range. The brand continued to diversify the collection by adding new versions added during the year. Just before the upcoming SIHH 2018, the brand managed to get attraction to the Overseas Collection once again with three new models.
During the days where we just left the Dubai Watch Week, one of the major events of the watch world, the new models that brands introduce under Pre-SIHH 2018 title continue to engage the watchmaking industry’s agenda. One of the latest samples in this regard is the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time model. The Overseas Collection is considered one of the leading product groups in the luxury sports watch market. Vacheron Constantin, who wants maintain having this important status, keeps adding new models/versions to the collection every year.
We had a chat about our expectations from SIHH and Baselworld exhibitions this year, at the office with Burak Bayram. He told me that the high-end are focusing on luxury sport models for a while and we may see similar models this year as well. Apparently, he was right. Vacheron Constantin, one of the leading brands in the luxury watchmaking, showed up with three new models added to the Overseas Collection.
The new model is offered in a 41mm diameter case that we are familiar with different versions in the current Overseas Collection. The case is featured in two options as stainless steel and 18K pink gold. Sporting scratch resistant sapphire crystals on both sides, the case is water resistant to 150 meters. Measuring 12.8mm in height, the case also features the collection’s signature detail the Maltese cross inspired bezel.
The Dual Time feature, which the model is named after, is read through a second hour hand and day/night indicator at 9 o’clock. The date display is located at the 6 o’clock. The dial is accompanied with SuperLuminova applied hands and indices for improved legibility under dark. The stainless steel version is offered with two dial options as silver and blue, while the 18K ping gold one comes with the silver dial only.
The new model is powered with the brand’s in-house Caliber Ref. 5110 DT. 37 jewels, self-winding movement is based on the Ref. 5110 which was introduced last year with necessary modification to bear the Dual Time feature. The movement beats at 28800vph and offers a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound. Geneva Seal marked movement is equipped with a solid 18K gold rotor and is visible through the sapphire crystal display caseback.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time is available with three strap/bracelet options as a metal bracelet or a rubber strap in order to boost the sporty appearance and a leather strap for the ones who prefer a dressy look. The straps are compatible with the brand’s easy change system debuted at the Baselworld 2017. Thanks to that system, changing straps takes only a few seconds.
Although I found the model to be quite successful, my first choice in the Overseas Collection would not be a Dual Time version for two reasons; first, I don’t really need this function as I do not travel a lot and second, I don’t like the asymmetric dial lay-out. If you are really a frequent traveler looking for a new watch in the luxury sport segment and you are not as sensitive as I am about symmetry, Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time can be a spot on for you.
The new models are scheduled to arrive at the brand’s boutiques as of February 2018. The stainless steel version retails for 24700, 00 USD while the 18K pink gold one comes with a MSRP of 35900, 00 USD (US list).
