In the eye-catching world of watches, we have assembled a few of our favorite cartoon characters that have been found in some interesting places.
Watches with cartoon characters have a wide range of interesting models that attract the attention of almost every generation, and feature characters who have gained notice from famous movies, television, literature, and even video games. There are actually quite a few different variations of this particular timepiece that is often associated with our childhood days. The models we have in our article are not the licensed children’s watches produced by the Flik Flak or similar brands, but the special models of the important watchmaking brands of the Swiss watch industry.
The brand that entered our list from the very top, is from the great designer Gerald Genta. Genta, who continued his activities under the Bulgari roof after the legendary designer passed away in 2011, soon turned to creating a special collection of horology-oriented models of the Italian origin brand. Gerald Genta, who has historically been one of the world’s greatest watch brands, is remembered for its models of Walt Disney’s cult character Mickey Mouse, though not perhaps as much as a Patek Philippe Nautilus or Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.
Almost all of the Mickey Mouse watches bearing the Gerald Genta name are designed according to the working style defined as a “Jumping Hour”. These special models aimed at child-friendly watchers who want to see a Jumping Hour, one of the most interesting features of traditional watchmaking, with Mickey Mouse, the most known cartoon character of all time...
The second model in our list comes from the Omega - Snoopy duo, which is perhaps the most popular example of this interesting watch type: Omega Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award Limited Edition Watch. The model, introduced at the Baselworld 2015 fair and welcomed with great interest as did all the models in the series, was designed for the 45th Anniversary of NASA’s Apollo 13 Month Journey. The model is colored with Snoopy, a clever and well-intentioned dog that is as lazy as the cartoon world, with a production limited to 1970 pieces only.
Apollo 13, which was launched on April 11, 1970 and hosted the 7th Human Moon journey, managed to return home even though the crew experienced quite difficult moments because of the explosion that took place two days after the launch. The description of this phenomenon that sprinkles water on the minds of the space explorers, is more like a summary of the incident: "Unsuccessful Success".
In 1970, Snoopy was chosen as a safety mascot for the Apollo 13 Space Program. The watch is the modern version of the “Silver Snoopy Award” which was handed to the personnel who had been involved with the safe return of the space shuttle’s crew, despite the fact that the mission had technically failed.
Our last model in our list comes from Romain Jerome, who brings a new breath to the clock industry, especially with his DNA series. After the Pokemon GO phenomenon that marked our past summer, the popular character Pikachu comes out on the dial of a wristwatch this time.
