Zenith is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its legendary movement – the El Primero chronograph of 1969 – with a set of three timepieces that is inspired by the most important El Primero watches.
The first model in the special set is the El Primero A386 Revival. Almost identical to the model produced in 1969, the new model comes in a 38mm diameter stainless steel case and takes its power from the El Primero 400 movement. In the design of the new model, it is important to note that an original 1969 El Primero A386 was “laser-scanned” to produce an exact replica. The only difference of the new model is the sapphire crystal display case back designed according to today’s standards.
Another model from the set, Defy El Primero 21, takes the movement to a new level instead of remaining loyal to the original. The Caliber El Primero 9004 movement is equipped with two escapements beating respectively at 36,000vph and 360,000vph. Equipped with a 44mm diameter matt titanium case and a partially perforated dial, the model features a chronograph capable of measuring 1 / 100th of a second.
The final model of the series is the Chronomaster 2 El Primero, which ticks with the new Caliber El Primero 3600 movement. El Primero 3600, represents the ultimate point in the legendary movement line-up, celebrating its 50th anniversary, and is a completely new platform. The new caliber, which maintains 36,000vph operating frequency and column wheel chronograph feature, is redesigned as a 1/10th of a second chronograph. Meanwhile, the power reserve is increased to 60 hours.
The Chronomaster 2 El Primero comes with a 42mm stainless steel case with a bezel made of black ceramic on the front face.
50 Years of El Primero Anniversary Set is limited to 50 pieces each presented in a large box with a touch screen, and an interior built like a miniature watchmaker’s bench, complete with an adjustable magnifier and light. The drawer inside accommodates four watches, with an empty slot for an upcoming 1/1000th of a second that Zenith plans to unveil in the future. The MSRP for this special set is CHF 50,000.
