A. Lange & Söhne, one of the successful representatives of world-famous German engineering in traditional luxury watchmaking, is the guest of our Hands-On corner with the Langematik Perpetual Honey Gold model, which debuted at SIHH 2019 last year.
Although A. Lange & Söhne Langematik Perpetual Honey Gold was introduced in 2019 as a novelty, it was not truly a new model for the brand. It was the latest version of the model introduced in 2001 that became the first self-winding perpetual calendar featuring the ALS style big date display.
The model comes in a case measuring 38.5mm in diameter and 10.2mm in height, which suits with the last few years' trends when oversized watches began to lose its appeal. The biggest feature that distinguishes the model from its past versions is that the case made of the brand's patented 18K gold alloy, Honey Gold. The harmony of this metal, which we are familiar with from the special models of ALS, is very successful with its unique tone and structure harder than platinum.
The case features scratch-resistant sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating on both sides of the case. The bezel and lugs are mirror polished while the mid-case is grained straightly. Recessed pushers for adjusting the perpetual calendar features of the model are located on the sides of the case.
Another prominent feature of the model is its Argenté style dial. Embossed around the perimeter, the solid silver dial hosts Honey Gold hands and indices as well as displays for the month, leap year, small seconds, moon phase, day of the week, and 24-hours features as well as a large date window.
The model is powered by the manufacture Caliber L922.1. Fully hand decorated and assembled, the 478 parts self-winding movement features the ALS classic three-quarter plate made of untreated German silver with an integrated three-quarter rotor in 21K solid gold and centrifugal mass in platinum as well as reversing and reduction gear with four ball bearings and a hand-engraved balance cock. Beating at a frequency of 3Hz (21600vph), the movement offers a power reserve of 46 hours when fully wound.
Accompanied by a hand-stitched brown alligator strap and Lange signed prolong buckle made of Honey Gold, the model is limited to 100 pieces only.
