A. Lange & Söhne re-introduced the Zeitwerk Date model, the brand’s first mechanical watch with a digital dial and date complication, 10 years after its debut.
Making revolutionary innovations in small areas such as a wristwatch is not a struggle that every brand can take. The Zeitwerk model, released by A. Lange & Söhne in 2009, brought this very kind of innovation to the world of luxury watches. Zeitwerk, who combined the high-end watchmaking with a modern time display method, was able to get full marks from the critics with its overly complicated movement and eye-catching design.
In 2019, Lange made his move to take the game a step further and re-introduced the Zeitwerk Date model. The new model is offered in an 18K white gold case measuring 44.2mm x 12.3mm, which is clearly off the classic dress watch size standards. The main reason for this is the movement inside. Caliber L.043.8 is designed with a size of 37mm x 8.9mm and is much larger and more complicated than most movements.
As every detail of the model is designed and produced with a distinct look, we can say that Zeitwerk Date is one of the top models offers a sense of high quality as a whole package. In addition to the digital display hour and minute counters on the gray dial, the power reserve indicator and the small seconds are positioned in a harmony of their own. The date complication that gives the model its name is located in the outer part of the dial. The date display is just as extraordinary as the time display. The dates are written in transparent numbers and the corresponding date is marked with a red-colored disc. While offering digital time display on a mechanical watch requires a sufficiently complex operation, it is admirable that another complication is added to this complicated movement.
The model is powered by the manufacture Caliber L.043.8. The hand-wound movement that beats at a frequency of 18.000vph, which in not that common in the watchmaking industry these days, offers an impressive 70-hour power reserve when fully wound. I would like to emphasize the word because impressive as the previous version only offered 36 hours of power reserve. 70 jewels / 516 parts movement features superior craftsmanship details like blued screws and extensive decorations.
The model is offered on a brown alligator strap and a pin buckle made of 18K white gold. MSRP is EUR 89.000.
